044 - GRAVEYARD DIRT CAKE #EasyCooking

I love desserts. I’m deeply in love. It is always a pleasant experience downing a spoonful of smooth concoction of chocolate and cream inside one’s throat after a delicious protein laden meal. Just so happens that I also like Oreo. And also, just so happens that I just got a brand new food processor. So this is how the story goes.

Ever heard of Dirt Cake? It’s basically a dessert that is made to resemble flower pot (or some sort), with ‘dirt’ made out of Oreo. Some say it's culinary brilliance. Some say it's downright weird. But me? i like my things a little bit weird. Anyway, did a bit of googling, it turns out, the Dirt Cake originated from the USA. May i just say to the people who come up with this idea; BRAVO. KUDOS.

Let's talk a bit about the ingredient. You don't have to be scared. No, we're not gonna scoop up some soil from your own backyard and eat it. Don't be silly. Oreo is the perfect ingredient for that ‘dirt’.

This is my take on such recipe.

This is my version of Dirt Cake.

Please welcome.........

GRAVEYARD DIRT CAKE.

This recipe is very easy to make, since we will utilize the full benefit of instant pudding mix, which I believe is readily available in your nearest supermarket!

==============================

For 3 servings of 1 Pint-sized Mason Jar, you will need:

2 Pack of Oreo
1 Packet of Instant Chocolate Pudding. I stumbled upon this instant flan mix, which I think is more suitable, since it’s more jelly-like. And me likey jelly like texture! Oh, it measures 145 grams
500 ml of plain white milk.
250 ml of Whipping Cream

Equipment:
- Mixer
- Food Processor / Blender. Folks, if you have a food processor, PLEASE USE IT. They will give you the best looking Oreo dirt ever. Don’t have one? Use the spices attachment on your regular blender (you know, that small attachment apart from the regular blender jar). If you're interested in buying one, i stumble upon a good one here
- Spatula
- Bowl

==========================

Ready? Here We Go!

Step 1 – Tear the Oreo open (kinda reminds you of Zombie tearing person’s torso in a movie doesn’t it?), put it inside the Food Processor (or a Blender if you will), blitz until it resembles a fine, black dirt. Set it aside.

I'm in love with this beauty.
Fill her up nicely
BLITZKRIEG MOTHERF*CKER!!!
That looked perfect!!

Step 2 – Grab a bowl, and measure the whipping cream. You notice that I’m using a cold-looking metal bowl. Yep, I put that bowl into the freezer 10 minutes before using. Whipped cream will benefit from cold utensil, making it easily expandable. I also add another similar sized bowl underneath filled with Ice to keep the top bowl cold. Maximize the use of your hand mixer, and whisk until it reaches soft peak. Set it aside in the refrigerator once done.

Cold Cream x Cold Bowl = Win
Whisk your sorrow away
Yummy yummy i got love on my creamy

Step 3 – Get a sauce pan and turn the heat up to medium. Follow the instructions on the Instant Chocolate Pudding mix. Mine says it has to use 500 ml of Milk. I let the milk come to a simmer before adding the pudding mix and whisk away to a boil. This took approximately 4 minutes. Once the liquid starts to thicken (the gelling agent has done its work!), transfer it to an empty bowl, and whisk away any lumps while cooling down.

#milkporn

Note: i don't like my pudding mix to be too thick, so i add a splash of milk

Step 4 – When your pudding mix is cold to the touch, add the whipping cream and fold it with a spatula. You’re basically done with the mix!

Step 5 – Assemble. Add the Oreo to the bottom. Alternating it with the pudding mix, Oreo, pudding mix, and so on, and finish the top with Oreo dirt. You’re done!

Empty clean jar
Base dirt
Pudding mix
More dirt
yet another dirt

Step 6 – Serve!

I love this dessert. The texture is smooth and grainy both at the same time. It is so awesome. It can even work for a Halloween themed party! Just add some Gummy Worms and tombstone and you're good to go!

Cheers

027 - SUGAR HEAVEN 99

Okay, for those having zero tolerance to sweet stuff, look away. This week recipe is bound to scare the shit out of you, you’ll be begging for mercy just from knowing what it is.

Ever watch a television show on travel channel that covers the food of a state fair in the US? Some of you might actually have a clue of what I’m talking about here. Fuck yes; it’s the deep fried food. And this time, let me take you and your taste palate to a journey of self-discovery. A trip of a lifetime in search of the meaning of life; flying right through the Cosmos.

Wait.

This ain’t NGC. Sorry Neil, I’m not stealing your thunder here ;P

Anyway, I’m calling this week recipe a theme rather than a specific name.

Welcome to SUGAR HEAVEN 99.

Y’all won’t be ready for this, so let’s just get on with it!

You will need:

1 Pack of Oreo. I think this consisted of 12 piece of cookie. Go for your favorite flavor. As you can see here, I got me some Double Stuf
1 pack of Snickers.
Enough oil for frying

For the batter

1 ½ cup of All Purpose Flour
½ tsp of Salt
1 Egg
1 cup of plain Milk. COLD
1 tsp of Baking Powder
1 ½ tbsp of Sugar

So you think you can handle this? Are you sure? Well, if you said so

Ready? Here We Go!

Step 1 – Unwrap both the Oreos and the Snickers from the packaging, and let it freeze inside the freezer for at least 3-4 hours. Best if its left overnight. Without freezing, the cookie and the chocolate bar will melt uncontrollably. And we don’t want that. We wanna do this in a very strictly controlled condition! (that sounded WAAAY too militarized lol). Leave them inside the freezer until just before frying. Oh yes, no picture. Y'all know what 'Unwrap' means right?

Step 2 – Mix your egg and milk. On a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Stir to combine. Pour the egg/milk mixture to the flour mix, and stir vigorously to ensure there are no lumps. Legend has it that the better had to be cold to ensure it is crisp. But I’ve yet to find this kind of batter that turn out crisp after frying. This batter will turn out a little crisp, but mostly cakey.

Egg goes together with milk. (that almost sounded like a porno pun LOL)
Stir to combine
Flour
Baking Powder
Salt
Sugar
Stir, Stir, STIR!
Wet x Dry
Stir
Right consistency!
Step 3 – Heat your oil, highest heat you can afford. We’re utilizing flash frying method, in which the cooking time will be as little as a minute or so.

Step 4 – Dunk your Oreos and Snickers to the batter, and coat it evenly. Just before frying, let the excess batter drip down. We don’t want too much excess on the pan. Too much Excess => Burnt Excess => will probably ruin the remaining batch.

A lil' bit of skinny dipping

Step 5 – FRY THE BASTARDS!!! Do them in batches to avoid the temperature dropping. Just fry them long enough so the batter will turn golden brown. This will take about 30 seconds per side for both Oreo and Snickers. After it turns golden brown, pick ‘em up and let it drain over a paper towel. Remember, cooking time WILL vary. Trust your sight and instinct!

Initial drop

Right after the flip
All done
And no, i did not forget about the Snickers x). This one took about 20 seconds on each side. Snickers are more prone to melting.

Step 6 – SERVE!

Um, mom, dad, i'm sorry for ever recreating this recipe in our kitchen, but this thing IS SO DAMN GOOD.

I would describe it as a surprise of a texture more than the taste. The Oreo is especially gooey and creamy after frying. Snickers had its chocolate layer melted, while the caramel gets even more gooey and warm, creating this new eating experience.

Okay, i'm serious now, please eat this sparingly. This recipe is known to induce Diabetes and Heart Attack if you eat it recklessly. But if you're the daring one.

GO FOR IT

Okay, last one

Peace

025 - Oreo Milk Pudding!

Ahoy!

Are you ready for dessert? This week recipe is very, very straight forward; even the laziest of person can whip this dessert just fine. I present to you, OREO MILK PUDDING!

You will need:

Wait, where's the sugar?
2 cups of whole milk. Substitute with Almond/Soy milk to make it vegan friendly. Be aware, taste might differ
75 grams of granulated sugar. Feel free to adjust the sweetness to your liking. Word of advice, the Oreo also add sweetness to the dessert
1 pack of Oreo.
2 large vanilla beans
1 pack of plain agar-agar powder.

Ready? Here We Go!

Step 0 -  Why step zero? Because prepping goes without saying you jackass! Measure your milk, making sure it's room temperature (like always, d'oh), measure the sugar while you're at it too! Vanilla beans? later on

2 Cups, no more, no less

Precise measurement is vital to prevent overly sweet pudding!

Step 1 – Get a saucepan, pour your milk, and sugar, and start the stove on a medium high heat. Let the milk heats up, stirring often to ensure all the sugar dissolves.

Milk

Sugar

Stir!
Step 2 – Halfway through the boiling process, scrape the beans off the vanilla, and mix it with the milk. You will notice this thing is starting to smell a little bit like heaven.

First, split the beans in half
Tore open to reveal the black goodness inside
Scrape from one end..
..To another.
Now this is the SHIT!
Bye bye Vay vay!

Step 3 – After the milk boils, turn the heat down to low, and mix in your agar-agar powder. Stir well, boil for a bit more, and then turn the heat off. Transfer the pudding mix to a large bowl to cool

Hot liquid x Wide surface = Faster cooling time

Whisking = Faster cooling process, too!

Step 4 – The way you incorporate the Oreos to this dish totally depends to your liking. If you want the Oreos whole, don’t crush ‘em. For me? Lightly crush. I put sizable portions to ramekin (feel free to use mold of your choice!), and fill 'er up!

Step 5 – Pour the mix to a mold of your choice, and once the mix is cooled, refrigerate the pudding for at least 2 hours to set up.

Step 6 – SERVE!!

Oooh la la ~~~, gotta love this sweet babies! Please give this recipe a go, and tell me know how it goes!

Peace
